Listen up for some good advice
* As a rule if you can't talk to people two metres away from you in a bar or club without shouting, then background noise is too high.
* At nightclubs, don't stand close to the speakers, and take regular breaks from the dance floor.
* Keep the volume down on your personal stereo; even on a medium setting the noise can still reach about 94 decibels.
* Wear earplugs if you think you might be exposed to dangerous levels of noise.
