Mother disappears after taking out $1.36m

Police have issued an urgent appeal for help in tracing a businessman's wife who disappeared a fortnight ago after withdrawing $1.36 million from her bank account.

Hung Siu-yuk, 34, a mother of two, left her home at Tierra Verde, Tsing Yi, at about 11.15am on May 4, police said.

She was last seen inside a branch of Dao Heng Bank in Lam Tin, where she withdrew $1.36 million that afternoon. Immigration records show she has not left Hong Kong.

Ms Hung's younger sister and two men have been arrested after officers recovered the money from her home in Tseung Kwan O. Knives were also seized from the apartment.

The three have been released on bail pending further investigations. A source said they were not required to surrender their travel documents, but would be stopped at border checkpoints if they tried to leave Hong Kong.

Ms Hung was reported missing by her husband on May 6 after she failed to return home. Officers raided the home of her younger sister, aged 32, two days later.

She told investigators that Ms Hung had given her the money but that she did not know where her sister had gone.

Anyone with information on the woman's whereabouts is urged to contact the New Territories South regional crime unit on 2613 8404 or 2613 8415, or Ma On Shan police station on 2640 5200.
