Two overseas artists with a fascination for Chinese culture are simultaneously showing their work, providing an interesting foreign perspective in a spring season that has seen so many strong shows by mainland artists.

Paris-based Marc Riboud is staging a retrospective of his black-and-white photographs (below left), taken during his 10 visits to the mainland over a 40-year period. It's a stunning visual history.

Meanwhile, Englishman Richard Winkworth's whimsical paintings (below right) consist of a bright array of colours, as well as gold.

Paintings by Richard Winkworth, June 6 to 9. Galerie E, Suite 701, AON China Building, 29 Queen's Road, Central. Mon to Fri 10am-7pm. Sat 10am-6pm. Also by appointment at Lucy Simmonds Fine Paintings. Tel: 2813 2550.

Marc Riboud, 40 Years of Photography in China, until June 15. 10 Chancery Lane Gallery, Central. Mon to Sat 10am-6pm. Sun 10am-5pm. Tel: 2810 0065.
