Pics of the week

Two artists from different corners of the globe who love to 'people watch' are putting their documentaries on show at two exhibitions this week. Unlikely partners in style and expression, they share the common goal of capturing lost human spirit.

Scottish painter Crawfurd Adamson's show, Paintings and Pastels, is an ode to an existence in the subterranean caverns of bars, clubs and discos (below). Adamson has been exploring the interaction of people for several years. Although rich in colours, Adamson's subjects reveal a sense of indifference and despair.

Until July 4. Schoeni Art Gallery, 21-31 Old Bailey Street, Central. Mon to Sat 10.30am-6.30pm. Tel: 2869 8802.

Sichuan artist Shen Xiaotong's collection of portraits (below), however, look much more low key - all washed in subtle shades to emphasise his exploration of living life without feelings.

Until June 30. Hanart TZ Gallery, 2/F Henley Building, 5 Queen's Road, Central. Mon to Fri 10am-7pm; Sat 10am-6pm. Tel: 2526 9019.
