A passenger died after a car carrying her and three men demolished a set of railings and plunged 10 metres down a slope into the compound of a school in Kwai Shing, Kwai Chung, last night. The Honda Civic was extensively damaged after it fell into the Lee I Yao Memorial Secondary School compound, trapping the four occupants, who had to be freed by firemen. Passenger Lai Wing-yin, 21, was dead on arrival at Princess Margaret Hospital while two men, Lee Wai-bong and Chung Hoi-tin, both 21, were admitted in critical condition. A third man, Choi Chi-kuen, 23, who suffered minor head injuries, was able to walk to an ambulance unaided and was also taken to the hospital. Police said they were investigating a report that the driver lost control after swerving to avoid a motorcycle in Kwai Shing Circuit.
