Why 'mask' justified

I refer to the letter by Richard Gibson headlined 'Anonymous hypocrite' (South China Morning Post, June 22).

Is Mr Gibson unable to imagine a situation where someone might wish to express a view, but cannot, for reasons of conflict of interest with their jobs, use their own name?

I often write to these columns as 'Name And Address Supplied'. It's not because I fear repercussions from my employer, but (as I am often interviewed by the press for work reasons) when I make a personal statement I do not want it to be viewed as the opinion of my boss.

I agree that some may hide behind the mask because they aren't willing to have people question their views. But we all shouldn't be branded hypocrites.

This column is for people to voice their opinions, in whatever form is right for them.
