Local helpers just not interested

Last month, the Labour Department put forward a proposal to charge employers $400 for each foreign domestic helper, in order to raise funds for the training of local people so they could take up domestic work.

The department has a Web site for local domestic helpers, and a

number of people are registered on the site.

I logged on to the site, saying I had a vacancy for a local helper, but after more than a month of advertising this vacancy, I had not received a single response.

I do not believe that the people listed on the site are seriously looking for work as a domestic helper. The Labour Department is wasting the public funds it already has, by listing such people on this site.
