You wrote on your front page yesterday of 'America's nightmare'.

However, this is not just America's tragedy. The World Trade Centre was filled with Chinese businesses, foreign embassy personnel and visitors from many countries. This was an attack on America's spirit. However, as a barbaric atrocity, it was an attack on all of our nations, all of our people. The United States merely suffered the brunt of the assault.

What nation is not vulnerable to these feckless thugs? If Shanghai builds the next tallest building in the world, won't it be vulnerable to some suicidal maniac bent on destruction?

We will rebuild the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon and do so with America's spirit: the can-do pride that says no obstacle is insurmountable. We shall overcome this obstacle. I hope we will stand together against the uncivilised cowards who gnaw at the soul of our nations.

America's desire is for justice for the terrorists who committed this atrocity. We will find those responsible and support a general declaration of war against all terrorists. The gloves are off. I hope all people will stand with us. No matter what disagreements we might have had in the past, there is only honour in defending other innocents from such a fate.
