Vicious vigilantes are no better than terrorists

What happened on the morning of September 11 in New York was tragic and horrible. My heart goes out to the thousands of innocent lives lost in these terrorist attacks. They were not just aimed at America, but at all nations.

In addition to feeling sorrow for the victims in New York, I also grieve for those members of the Sikh and Muslim communities who have been victims of despicable attacks in the wake of last week's tragedy.

We are told that the United States is a fair and just society, where different races can co-exist in peace. However, this is only possible if Americans are educated to respect the richness of all cultures and religions. Sikhs wearing turbans have nothing to do with the Taleban regime or its supporters.

The vigilantes who are attacking innocent Sikhs and Muslims, by showing ignorance and hatred, are no different from the terrorist groups with their fundamentalist ideas. The attacks must stop.
