When swimming in Deepwater Bay I am constantly concerned at the casual approach taken to ensuring the safety of swimmers.
It is disconcerting to see so many small children with floats and armbands jumping off pontoons and splashing away in deep water. They are definitely non-swimmers and are at risk. When I recently suggested to the lifeguards that they should warn children and parents of the risks involved, they seemed totally unconcerned.
I urge the relevant government department to deal with this problem and not just write to these columns and allude to its safety record.
