Still time to find a peaceful solution

September 11, 2001 was a day of terror, one which shocked Americans and people the world over when hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York and America's military headquarters - the Pentagon - in Washington DC, killing thousands of people.

I do not know how people could be so ruthless as to destroy lives and property so heartlessly. The terrorists were cold-blooded but also very foolish. Do they not realise how many previously happy families they have ruined with their senseless attack?

Although the US Government is sometimes mistaken in its policies on the Middle East, this is no reason for the terrorists to retaliate in such a way. The people who staged these attacks should know that using force cannot solve the problem but will instead only worsen it.

We realise it is a grossly wicked act against the citizens of America and that the angry US Government has decided to retaliate through military action.

This is the worst solution, however. Due to this development many families will be destroyed. How many people eventually will be killed in the Middle East? This could also be described as an act of terrorism.

I hope the US Government calms down and tries to solve the problem in a peaceful way. It is not too late to end the violence and seek a more measured solution.

I pray God can give gentler hearts to those now at war.
