Anti-drugs chat room launched

A new Web site and youth forum have just been launched to combat the worsening problem of drug abuse among young people in Hong Kong.

In response to the United Nations' call for pro-active involvement of young people in drug-abuse prevention activities, the Narcotics Division and the Action Committee Against Narcotics have set up a chat room under the Narcotics Division Web site (www.info.gov.hk/nd) for youngsters to express their views and make their own anti-drugs proposals.

Social worker Spencer So Siu-hong, of the Kely Support Group, thinks this is the right direction for the anti-drugs preventive campaign to take. 'Youngsters, who are the target receivers of the anti-drugs education and activities, were usually passive, ' Mr So said. 'The chat room could provide a chance for youngsters to express their thoughts about drugs and anti-drugs work.'

More than 500 young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau will also share their views on various anti-drugs issues at the youth forum due to take place on November 3.
