San San keen to share her knowledge with rising HK stars
Three-time world champion Lee Lai-shan says she wants to coach the next generation of Hong Kong champions - but she stopped short of saying she wanted to coach full-time. San San is still weighing her options and keeping the media guessing her next move as she nears the twilight of her glittering career.
The 1996 Atlanta Olympic heroine is probably competing for the last time at the Hong Kong Open Championships at Cheung Chau and she made it known she was still uncertain as to her plans once she hangs up her board. But the Cheung Chau-raised champion said she would like to pass on her knowledge and skills to some of the younger members of the Hong Kong team if given the chance.
She said: 'I wouldn't mind coaching members like Ho Chi-ho or Chan Kin-yin and some of the younger girls like Chan Wei-kei and Chan Wei-man. I want to help them reach the sort of level I have reached and these people all have good potential. It is up to them if they want me to teach them or not. There is not only Lee Lai-shan in Hong Kong now, but Ho Chi-ho and Chan Kin-yin. They are all coming up through the ranks.'
San San did mention recently that coaching was one of her options when she retires from the sport, but she said she wouldn't make a decision until early next year.
Meanwhile, San San continued to sail away from her rivals in the women's IMCO competition, winning both her races yesterday. San San is seven points clear of sisters Chan Wei-kei and Chan Wei-man and barring a disaster in today's final three races, she should easily clinch the title.
Wind conditions were light again as organisers were forced to postpone racing until 1.30pm yesterday because of lack of winds.
In the men's lightweight competition, Ho and Chan Kin-yin continued to be locked in a tense battle with just one point separating the pair. Ho won the second race after finishing third in his opening race, while Chan sailed to second and then third position.
