Colleagues yesterday expressed shock over the death of lawyer Ken Lim Keng-yip, who fell from a seventh-floor flat.
Lim, 50, a litigation partner and solicitor at Johnson Stokes & Master (JSM), accidentally fell from the Sheung Wan building on Friday afternoon. He died the following day in Queen Mary Hospital.
Lim had been with trainee solicitor and former actress Mary Jean Reimer, 37, who lives alone in the flat, police said.
After Ms Reimer's husband, Lau Ka-leung, 66, rang the bell, Lim climbed out a window and stood on a ledge before falling on to a podium on the third floor. He reportedly dropped a packet of cigarettes and lost his balance while trying to pick it up.
Peter Sit Kien-ping, who sat with Lim as a Law Society council member in the mid-1990s, said his death was a huge loss to the legal sector.
'The news came as a shock. The circumstances surrounding his death are puzzling,' Mr Sit said.
