Hong Kong yachting received a shot in the arm when it was announced that Citibank Platinum card and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) have formed an exclusive partnership that will raise the profile of yachting in the SAR.

Citibank Platinum has become the sole title sponsor of the Saturday Harbour Racing series in the first sponsorship of its kind in Hong Kong.

And aiming to promote yachting to the local community and the younger generation, Citibank Platinum has also made a $50,000 donation to the RHKYC's youth sailing fund, a sail training programme open to all Hong Kong children aged between six and 16 years. Each year, about 250 children attend the club's courses.

RHKYC general manager Robert Bird was delighted with the new sponsorship.

He said: 'The Harbour Racing series is a popular highlight of the yachting year and we expect to see participation from a broad spectrum of the Hong Kong yachting community this season, ranging from professionals to keen amateurs and youngsters nurtured in our own youth sail training programmes.'

The Harbour Racing Series, held during the sailing season from September to May, has a long and distinguished history with the first regatta in Victoria Harbour held in 1849.
