Laminated passports planned to prevent damage to codes

Partly laminated SAR passports could be issued in the middle of next year to prevent security codes being damaged, according to Secretary for Security Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee.

The move came after the Immigration Department received 126 complaints that the code on their passports had fallen off. Mrs Ip said the Government would consider laminating the security codes when new passports with enhanced security features were issued in the middle of next year.
