FIFTEEN passengers were hospitalised and dozens more hurt when a Hongkong-bound jetfoil hit a partially submerged dredging pipe shortly after it left Macau last night.

The Urzela left Macau with more than 200 passengers at 7.45pm and hit the pipe at the outer harbour 20 minutes later, throwing many passengers out of their seats.

Two tug boats arrived 40 minutes later and towed the jetfoil back to Macau where 15 people were taken to hospital. Many others were treated at the pier.

Another jetfoil was arranged to take 181 passengers back to Hongkong where 24 were treated at Queen Mary and Tang Shiu Kin hospitals for minor injuries.
