Tax review plea

I refer to the report headlined 'Liberals seek rates, tax cuts' (South China Morning Post, December 13).

I agree that the Government should adjust the rates and taxes which affect middle-income citizens and people on low wages.

The issue of rates on vacant property should also be looked at.

Prior to 1995, landlords could apply for a refund of rates for vacant premises. Since 1995 they have been obliged to pay rates for vacant properties which given our present difficult economic conditions, means property owners are incurring a substantial financial loss.

I sincerely hope the Liberal Party and other organisations will take up these very important matters with the administration.
