'Queen of clubs' blazes a trail for charitable golfers

Clear Water Bay Golf and Country Club players took part in a 'golf-club hunt' after an absent-minded golfer left a trail of clubs behind her during a charity golf afternoon organised by Merrill Lynch.

Catherine Leung Kar-cheung, a staff member in the equities section of the investment bank in Hong Kong, proved a somewhat forgetful player when she left the trail of clubs during the bank's golfing event this month. However, the 70-odd players, from various companies, saw the humour in it and voted her most valued player of the afternoon.

Ms Leung temporarily parted with a total of six clubs across three holes, and had it not been for her conscientious fellow golfers, who rounded them up for her, she might have lost the lot.

A charity auction was held after the event with items ranging from golf drivers to airline tickets.

A stay at a private resort in Bali, and air tickets on British Airways went for $150,000 to two individuals who each bid $75,000. More than $660,000 was raised.

Proceeds of the event will go to Operation Santa Claus - benefitting the KELY support group, which helps youths deal with issues such as drugs, alcohol and relationship problems.
