Sai Kung site may get 3,440 more flats
Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) has proposed increasing the developable area of a Sai Kung residential site to accommodate 3,440 more flats.
The proposal aims to develop a gross floor area of 5.8 million square feet on 64.5 hectares of land in Sai Sha Road, Sai Kung, near Ma On Shan. It represents an increase of more than 50 per cent of the formerly permitted plan of 3.8 million sq ft.
The number of units will be raised from 2,196 to 5,636, with a 36.8 ha golf course, a 116,000 sq ft clubhouse, 3,285 parking spaces and a 100,000 sq ft shopping mall.
Under the new plan, 28 terraced houses and 39 apartment blocks rising to 24 storeys will be built using stepped-height design. Taller buildings will be placed at the back near a valley to offer better views.
The plan is subject to approval by the Town Planning Board. A board official yesterday said the proposal would be discussed early next month.
SHKP also has offered some environmental protection suggestions, such as building taller apartment blocks to enlarge a visual corridor, establishing a rainwater recycling system for landscape irrigation, building solar energy-saving facilities and offering shuttle-bus connections to railway stations.
However, the official said the board would consider whether the suggestions suited the surrounding environment before granting approval.
Meanwhile, Hutchison Whampoa's Hongkong International Terminal won approval to build a tower with 301,000 sq ft of office space and a 43,000 sq ft container-related area at Container Terminal 9 in Tsing Yi.
The tower would be built as a screen building to mitigate noise affecting the neighbouring residential area.
