1960: A government report said 1959 was a record year for marriages in Hong Kong, with 6,924 recorded, an increase of more than 2,500 year on year. There were at least 821 church ceremonies as of November.
1962: About 2,500 bean-product workers were negotiating for a 30 per cent pay rise. Their wages were $150 to $165 a month.
1965: A group of students at Pak Nam College threw eggs and tomatoes at a teacher, smashed his glasses and shot red ink into his face from a toy water pistol. Six youths were charged with behaving in a disorderly manner.
1970: A young man threw pepper into the eyes of an employee of a Kowloon jewellers' and ran off with two watches worth more than $2,500.
