Ewing heads for territory
PATRICK Ewing, the National Basketball Association superstar, will be in Hongkong later this month to promote a range of sportswear.
Ewing, star centre for the New York Knicks, is one of the most famous names in the game behind the Chicago Bulls' Michael Jordan and the Phoenix Suns' Charles Barkley.
A member of the United States ''Dream Team'' that swept to the gold medal at last year's Barcelona Olympics, Ewing helped the Knicks to the best regular-season record in the NBA's Eastern Conference this year.
However, his team were beaten by Jordan's Bulls in the Eastern Conference finals, having led 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.
Although the Knicks were denied a place in the NBA finals, it was still one of their best performances in many years.
It was the first time they had reached a Conference final since 1974 and the first time since their championship season of 1973 that they won two play-off series.
After winning the Conference, they defeated Indiana Pacers and Charlotte Hornets before losing to the Bulls.
A spokesman for Ewing's local promoters said: ''He will be here to promote his line of sportswear in Hongkong.
''It is hoped that he may be able to give a few exhibitions as well. It is not often Hongkong fans get a chance to see a player of his class.'' Ewing will arrive in Hongkong on July 25 after a similar promotional tour of Japan.
It is hoped that he will give a demonstration at the Kowloon Park Indoor Games Hall.
