Police involved in an anti-illegal immigration operation in Ta Kwu Ling yesterday accidentally stumbled on a storage centre housing pirated DVDs and master tapes worth $30 million.

The five-man team was patrolling Shui Lau Hang village, home to about 20 villagers and considered the most remote part of Ta Kwu Ling, when they came across an unlocked two-storey building.

Inside the 300-square-feet premises they discovered 300 boxes of pirated discs on each floor.

The seizure consisted of 17,000 pirated films, including 10,000 pornographic movies, and 540 master discs, each valued at between $40,000 and $60,000. Police estimated the street value of the haul was about $30 million.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Detectives at the border were last night looking for members of the syndicate.

The case will later be handed over to Customs officers to make follow-up investigations.
