Top officials' salaries are far too high

With so many companies laying off staff and closing down, the gap between the very rich and the rest of us, the 'average' Hongkongers, has widened.

Not only do government departments waste taxpayers' money on supplies they will never use, department heads are overpaid, usually getting salaries that exceed those of their counterparts in developed countries.

How do a privileged few who enjoy life in their little ivory towers know how the average man lives? They will never experience negative-equity home ownership.

They will never worry about their job security, or know what it is like to have to save every spare dollar, or to get a loan to pay money already owed to creditors. And they will never know how much it hurts people to see their hard-earned money which they used to pay their taxes, wasted by the Government.

If private companies feel the need to pay huge salaries to their bosses, then provided the companies are profitable, that is their right.

The Government, however, is answerable to the taxpayers and it must justify to us the huge salaries it pays its top officials.
