It is Super Bowl weekend in the United States and this year's contenders for the Holy Grail of American sport are the St Louis Rams and the New England Patriots.

The Rams are hot favourites to win with their tight defence and good record this season, but the Patriots are a surprise package and have a strong team spirit.

Super Bowl XXXVI will be played in New Orleans' Louisiana Super Dome, the ninth time it has been played there, making it the most popular site for America's big game.

New Orleans is known for its party atmosphere, and some of the least competitive Super Bowl match ups in the event's 36 years of history. In 1986, the Chicago Bears capped a brilliant season by destroying the New England Patriots 46-10.

Four years later, the San Francisco 49ers blew away the Denver Broncos 55-10 in the most lopsided score in Super Bowl history.

Super Bowl XXXVI kicks off at 7 am on Monday (Hong Kong time).
