A bank robber wielding what appeared to be a revolver tried to hold up a branch of the HSBC yesterday - but his weapon was exposed as a plastic gun when it broke in half after he hit the male teller over the head for reacting too slowly.

The man drew what appeared to be a pistol and threatened the teller at a counter inside the bank in Tak Tin Estate, Lam Tin, at about 4.30pm. The would-be robber then fled the bank and escaped in a taxi. The 23-year-old employee was treated for head injuries in United Christian Hospital.
