Congestion simply a case of bad timing

Having participated in the Standard Chartered Half Marathon on February 24 I would like to congratulate the organisers on the success of this event.

However, I have a few suggestions which might ensure the smooth running of next year's event.

Due to the large number of participants the half marathon and 10km runners should not start the run at the same time. It would be better for the 10km run to begin say 15 minutes later. It took me five minutes just to reach the start line after the race started and then 10 minutes just to run the first kilometre due to the very large number of participants.

Given the narrow roads the considerable congestion at the start would be significantly reduced with different start times.

Elite athletes running the marathon are held up by the half marathon runners. Therefore, the interval between the start of the marathon and the half marathon should be increased to at least 30 minutes.
