English games build confidence

English speaking day at Clementi Secondary School was spiced up this year with help from Friends Unlimited, a non-profit organisation.

The charity ran three stalls which encouraged students to speak English through games.

Altogether there were about 25 game stalls. Each participant was given a card with 26 spaces. After taking part in a game or talking to English teachers, they would get one space stamped.

Ann Chu, a director of Friends Unlimited, said: 'When we interact with local students, we force them to use English. We help to build their confidence and improve their listening and oral skills.'

Third former Kenneth Chow Tsz-him said the games were extremely interesting and entertaining and he enjoyed the karaoke most.

'I could talk to friendly foreigners and I learned lots of new words,' he added enthusiastically.
