High roller sued over Vegas debt
A Hong Kong high roller who blew $4 million in a week-long gambling spree at two Las Vegas casinos has been issued with separate High Court writs demanding the debts be cleared.
Between January 26 and 29 last year, Tony Lo Man lost US$273,000 (HK$2.13 million) at Parball Corporation's Paris Las Vegas casino, according to one of the writs filed yesterday.
In the second writ, Mr Lo was also alleged to have run up a further US$240,000 between January 22 and 29 last year at Caesar's Palace, run by Desert Palace Inc.
Parball Corporation claims Mr Lo approached them to extend him credit so he could continue gambling at the casino.
Eight markers - or credit notes - were issued enabling him to obtain US$273,000 worth of gambling chips, the writ states.
It says Mr Lo breached Nevada laws, which are also enforceable in Hong Kong.
Mr Lo also failed to respond to a demand on March 1 this month that he repay the credit.
Desert Palace Inc claims Mr Lo also ignored their March 1 demand to repay the US$240,000 they lent him on January 22, 23 and 29 in the form of six markers.
Both casinos are seeking the sums of credit, as well as legal costs and further relief deemed appropriate by the court.
