I refer to the report headlined 'Twin who lost case faces last day in SAR school' (South China Morning Post, March 21).

Teenager Lin Yeung-ming has been denied right of abode and faces being forcibly separated from her twin sister and sent back to the mainland.

The right of abode cases are complex and not all claimants have the right to stay. But making one twin go back to the mainland while the other one stays in Hong Kong with her family is cold-hearted. The same goes for adopted children who are not yet adults. I always thought that once adopted you are a legal member of the family that adopted you and your place of origin is immaterial. There should be no discussion on this issue at all.
