More than 200,000 SAR residents crossed into the mainland through the Lowu border checkpoint yesterday on the first day of the Easter holiday.

About 4.41 million people are expected to cross the land border, 80 per cent of them at Lowu, this weekend and next weekend for the Ching Ming festival - an 8.5 per cent increase on last year.

KCR officials imposed a quota on Lowu-bound trains at 8.20am to ease crowding at the border. The quotas were lifted at noon.

About 60,000 people left Chek Lap Kok as flight arrivals and departures reached a record 653.
