Ridiculous restriction should be scrapped
Motorcycles cannot use any of the Autotolls in Hong Kong.
The management companies of the SAR's tunnels and the Transport Department offer nothing but lame, unsustainable arguments for not making this service available to motorcyclists. They have, in the past, promised to investigate and review, but all that has happened in the last three years is prevarication and delay.
Submissions by motorcycle organisations have been ignored or put to one side after the usual acknowledgment of receipt.
Claims that the cheaper motorcycle units could be used by cars are ridiculous. The booths have cameras and the argument could be applied to cars versus trucks, both of which have Autotoll and different toll rates.
Safety has been mentioned, but without specifying what the concerns are.
Surely it is better to let motorbikes be able to continue through a booth rather than stop on an oily surface and delay other traffic.
There are no good reasons for not granting Autotoll units to motorcyclists.
