Stay off junctions
I refer to the letter headlined 'Put police cameras at road intersections' (South China Morning Post, March 13) and the reply from the Commissioner of Police (Post, April 4).
A lot of the traffic jams in our city are caused by vehicles stuck on road junctions when the lights are red, making it impossible for pedestrians or other vehicles to get past.
I have often wondered why it is not possible to legislate and make it an offence for a vehicle to remain on any road junction (not just those with yellow boxes marked on them) when the lights have turned red. Such legislation would deter impatient drivers from venturing on to junctions unless the way was clear.
I would appreciate a response from the Commissioner of Police.
