Friendly shopkeepers

I refer to the letter by J. Anderson headlined 'Stanley Market will not be missed' (South China Morning Post, April 11).

I am against the proposal to replace the market with a shopping mall. Tourists do not want to visit malls. They have enough of them in their own countries. I came to live in Hong Kong in 1979 when Stanley Market sold mainly fish, flowers, fruit and vegetables.

It has changed and when I recently visited Hong Kong, I found lots of bargains. Unlike Mr Anderson I did not find the shopkeepers to be arrogant. They were helpful and very friendly.
