AN American businessman and his wife were unwitting victims in the hunt for the weapons taken from the Marine Police armoury, when armed police burst into their Yuen Long hotel room early yesterday morning.

Dale Edwards said he was asleep with his Hongkong-born wife, Michelle, when three men in army uniforms banged on the door.

When he opened it he was staring down the barrels of a pump-action shotgun and a pistol and being told ''stand back''.

''They didn't say a lot about who they were or what they wanted, and I was in no position to argue,'' said Mr Edwards, who arrived on Monday to visit relatives.

Yuen Long police sources confirmed Police Tactical Unit officers scoured parts of the district in the hunt.
