The corpse of an old woman was yesterday found in a home-made coffin inside an abandoned hut in Happy Valley - 10 days after a skeleton was discovered lying on the bed under which the coffin was concealed.

Lands Department workers demolishing the wooden hut and a number of others nearby in Wong Nai Chung Gap Road found the coffin at about 4pm. The woman appeared to have been dead a long time.

The corpse, covered with a piece of cloth, was lying on a mattress inside the coffin. Personal belongings, including an ID card which gave a birth date more than 90 years ago, were beside the body.

The same group of workers had found a skeleton lying on top of the bed last week when they started clearing the area - but failed to notice the coffin.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances in either case.
