Pedestrian schemes good for area

It always amuses me when our tourist industry declares that Hong Kong people must sacrifice their right to enjoy better conditions in their own city to cater to the needs of tourists.

One example of this kind of attitude can be found in Tsim Sha Tsui, where hoteliers are up in arms about pedestrianisation schemes.

The best cities in the world are those in which the environment has been improved, so that people like living there.

Locals and tourists alike, can equally enjoy this better environment. Measures like pedestrianisation are introduced to make life more pleasant for residents. They should also be welcomed by our visitors and by businessmen in Hong Kong.

I would like to congratulate the Transport Department on its pedestrian schemes. Keep up the good work.
