A Hong Kong businessman, aged about 40, was rescued by Shenzhen police hours after he was kidnapped by a gang outside a karaoke bar in the Futian district on Tuesday.

Two mainlanders were arrested after the victim's wife, who was in Hong Kong, reported the kidnap to the police after receiving a telephone call from one of the kidnappers demanding ransom. It was not known whether the ransom had been paid or the amount demanded.
