Beckham to Owen, Owen to Beckham, Beckham to ? Hello Kitty.

Surely you didn't think the first Japan-hosted World Cup would pass without Asia's one true superstar getting on the ball?

Sanrio's iconic cat makes her debut in Kitty Football Cup 2002, Sanrio's brave attempt to bridge the demographic gulf between office girls with a taste for cute, pink stuff and men who smell of beer and shout at the telly.

The PC game, which has just gone on sale, has Kitty playing against the international team of your choice. Players can direct Kitty through a number of authentic manoeuvres, including the sliding tackle, dribble and nasty foul. 'Her movements are cute and funny,' says Sanrio's Web site which, among many other surreal screen shots, shows the bowed one being cautioned after a nasty foul on a floored England player, probably Heskey. 'Whether you are a fervent Hello Kitty fan or an enthusiastic World Cup fan you will love this game,' says the site. Kawai!
