A number of letters have appeared in these columns regarding Cable TV's presentation style in its World Cup programmes.

Cable TV chose the theme of a carnival to produce its World Cup programmes with live audience participation in a purpose-built studio. It is intended to create a party atmosphere for the audience in the studio as well as at home, so they can share the fun and excitement of the fans who are watching in the stadium. We appreciate some viewers may have other preferences, but we have also received support from other viewers for what we are doing.

In addition to Cantonese, commentaries in English and Putonghua are also available on our Nicam service. Post-match analysis is included in the carnival programme. We also run highlights and repeats of the day's matches, as well as pre-match and post-match analysis, in a timely manner on two supporting channels (13 and 28), around the clock.

We hope we are catering to the diverse viewing needs of the vast majority of our viewers. We will take note of all comments and criticisms made by your correspondents.
