This month's edition of Hotel Asia Pacific, an award-winning and influential magazine, has caused outrage in the industry by assigning each of Asia's main hotel chains the celebrity persona that best fits their reputation. Editor Steve Shellum said: 'I'd heard a couple of local chains had sent staff to focus groups where they ask questions such as, 'If our hotel were a person, who would they be?' We just decided to take it a step further.'

Here's the rundown. Some are living legends, some are wannabes and a few are rock-hell has-beens:

Inter-Continental - Tom Jones

Peninsula Group - Cher

Four Seasons - Celine Dion

Ritz-Carlton - Tony Bennett (below)

AmanResorts - Madonna

Gallery Singapore - Kurt Cobain

Meridien - Pink Floyd

Marriott - Bruce Springsteen

Banyan Tree - Ricky Martin

Mandarin Oriental - Destiny's Child

Hilton International - The Troggs

Shangri-La - Vanessa Mae

Hyatt International - Mae West
