BOC listing deadline looms

Bank analysts who have seen the listing prospectus of Bank of China (HK) had until yesterday to prepare embargoed research on the proposed share issue.

'The deadline to submit the reports . . . was today. And once the prospectus and the research reports are publicly released, the underwriters have four weeks within which they must complete marketing the issue and listing the shares,' a source told Business Post yesterday.

Second-guessing the listing schedule has become a focus of media attention, though the bank, its advisers and its underwriters refuse to comment.

In a market awash with speculation, one rumour is that the BOC may have decided on a last-minute postponement of the listing - though the news that researchers were asked to stick to yesterday's deadline suggests the listing is going ahead.

It is understood that the Hong Kong stock market's listing committee will meet today to discuss the bank's application.
