I refer to the letter from Cindy Mak headlined 'Cents of frustration' (Sunday Morning Post, June 9).

We apologise to Ms Mak for her unpleasant experience at Sai Kung Public Library. Our investigation indicated that library staff did not handle Ms Mak's case properly. She was advised by the staff handling her case to pay the $7.50 overdue fines on her next visit to the library, after they learned she wanted to pay with 10 cents and 20 cents coins. There are no regulations in the libraries regarding the payment of fines in coins.

We have reminded staff at the library to be helpful when providing services to the public.

Should Ms Mak have further queries, she can contact the assistant librarian of Sai Kung Library, Wong Sze-wan, at 2792 3652.
