Islam has major role to play

I REFER to the letter from Mr Gareth Gwynne, headlined, ''Barbaric system'' (South China Morning Post, July 21).

It is not my intention to enter into a personal argument with Mr Gywnne, but on the contrary, to educate the good gentlemen as to what the message of Islam is, as his letter suggests to me that either he is completely ignorant of Islam, or he has been exposed to the virtues of the true religion of God, with preconceived notions.

At this point I would like to ask Mr Gywnne how he defines that term ''destructive religion''. Is he referring to Islam's total prohibitions on alcohol, fornication, adultery, incest, homosexuality and other numerous vices which are rampant, resulting inendless social ills found in the Western world? If so, this so-called ''destructive religion'' can certainly play a major role in ''righting Western wrongs''.

Due to limited space I am unable to elaborate further, however I would take this opportunity to invite Mr Gywnne to experience the purity and practicality of Islam by joining its fold.
