With a spring in your step

This summer's most wanted items are Pyon Pyon or 'no impact power running shoes' - a hybrid of rollerblades and a pogo stick, from Japan.

According to Cherry Yan Ngo-mui of JC Shop in Times Square, Causeway Bay, which she says is the sole dealer of the trainers in Hong Kong, Pyon Pyon were originally designed for people wanting to lose weight. 'Because the shoes weigh two kilograms, when you wear them for exercise, the amount of weight that can be lost is three times higher than wearing ordinary trainers,' she said. The shop had ordered 10 pairs last week, but 90 more are on the way and will retail at $1,680 a pop.

SAR collared gay activist Tommy Chen No'el from Rainbow Action - who does his fair share of jumping up and down - to road-test Pyon Pyon. After all, he is always fashionably dressed: think of his head-to-toe PVC outfit at the Fetish Fashion raid protests.

Chen (left) gave them the thumbs up. 'They would be handy when we hang up our banners at the gates at the Central Government offices, which are very high.'
