Capacitors in four models of Carrier window-type air-conditioners - 51G9, 51G7, 51V7 and 51T7 - were subject to easy corrosion if placed closed to sea or exposed to salty water without regular maintenance, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) warned yesterday. The corrosion, in rare circumstances, could potentially lead to a fire hazard. The supplier said it would provide free maintenance to guard against the potential default. The EMSD advised concerned consumers to call the supplier's customer service hotline on 2688 2108 or register online at for the free service.
