Pope John Paul II will inaugurate his new Popemobile at the Catholic Church's World Youth Days celebration in Toronto on July 23. Mercedes-Benz, the supplier of cars to popes since 1930, has given the pontiff a new customised, bullet-proof Mercedes S500 with two telephones, a single rear seat, a reported top speed of 200km/h and an image of the Virgin Mary. The papal fleet consists of four Mercedes - two Popemobiles and two limousines - but the vehicle in which John Paul II usually travels has nearly 160,000 kilometres on its clock.
