Junction query

With reference to the response from Wong Doon-yee, for the Commissioner of Police (South China Morning Post, July 2), to the letter from Kathleen McLearie, headlined 'Cat and mouse peril at pedestrian crossing' (Post, June 8), I would like Mr Wong's advice on whether the pedestrian or the driver has preference over the 'pavement' which forms the junction with a private driveway.

Often, I see drivers simply ignoring pedestrians when they come out of their driveway straight on to the main road, expecting the pedestrian to give way even when the pedestrian reaches the junction first.
