I found this year's Hong Kong Book Fair at the Convention and Exhibition Centre very disappointing.
It attracted a record number of visitors.
However, instead of being an occasion for the unveiling of brand new titles, the vast majority of participating publishers merely treated the fair as an opportunity to get rid of old stock. Although there were some new titles available, they probably averaged fewer than two books for each booth.
Besides, the literary standard of many of the new titles left much to be desired.
I have been to this annual event for years and I found this year's offerings to be the most lacklustre.
I do hope that the organiser, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, can raise the standard of future book fairs.
