Veteran San Francisco house DJ Harry Who? makes his Hong Kong debut at Liquid tonight. Born in Indonesia, Harry Haryanto began to play with vinyl at high school in Jakarta during the golden age of disco. After eight years in London, he moved to San Francisco where he has been prominent on the scene for more than a decade, including residencies at two legendary Sunday-morning parties Boogie Buffet and Stompy. 'I don't do them any more, I'm too old,' says Harry. 'The vibe was amazing. People came from all the other parties when we started at 6am and went on all day. Others would get out of bed and come down.'
Harry is one of the DJs who helped define the West Coast sound and says house has always dominated. 'The music has evolved from a ravy style and the scene is mature. Jungle was going to make a dent, but didn't take off, trance is for younger kids who rave while two-step never got anywhere,' he says. So expect a deep and funky set from Harry tonight with local spinners David Lam, Eric Byron and Michael Graham in support. Today, 10pm-late, Liquid, 1-5 Elgin Street, Central. Tel: 2549 9577. Free
